A day in the life of an average British family
London, July 11 (ANI): Even though many families around the world failed to bring down their expenditure post recession, British families are 'really trying to spend within their means' with the help of their habits - at least that's what the study has indicated.
A study of the nation's habits has found that the average British family wakes up at 6.57am, eats spaghetti bolognese on a Monday evening and goes to bed at 10.39pm each night.
Families speak to just two of their neighbours, spend 88.02 pounds a week on food and drink and have the TV switched on for nine hours a day.
Britons were found to be creatures of habit, with Friday night being a firm favourite for a fish and chips takeaway for 28 per cent of people.
For the rest of the week, Tuesdays tend to mean pasta bake, while it's chicken pie on Wednesdays and cottage pie on Thursdays.
Despite the attractions of the Internet and other gadgets, more than half watch television together every evening. The nation's most watched programme is the BBC's 'Doctor Who'.
The research, conducted by home energy management company AlertMe, also found that most parents spend two evenings a month with friends, while 43 per cent spend no quality time together as a couple at all.
The average British family has 3,280 pounds in savings and adults carry 20.62 pounds in cash with them.
"Without a doubt these have been testing times for everyone, especially families, and the recession has been a wake-up call, but this study shows that people are really trying to spend within their means," the Daily Express quoted Mary Turner, chief executive of AlertMe, as saying.
